I think we can all agree that most people, if not all, appreciate a good love story where the man pursues the woman who is his love interest until he gets a positive response and finally his love is reciprocated. We also know that not all love stories have a happy ending, but the life of Jesus has a joyful ending. The love story of Jesus Christ and man is one that is full of sacrifice and unending joy, where Jesus is the Pursuer and man is Jesus’s love interest. It is a story that has transcended time and space and is always trending and will keep on trending till the end of time.

In the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned by believing satan and eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil instead of taking God at His word (Genesis 3), they in effect caused the separation of man from God because of sin. God could have wiped them out and started afresh with a new team. But God had a plan, a great plan, that satan himself couldn’t decode. Genesis 3:15 was the plan; that the seed of Eve would bruise the head of satan. It talks of ‘her seed’ not ‘seeds’ meaning a single person, and this person was Jesus Christ.

From the moment God spoke of His coming in the form of man in Genesis 3:15, so as to take back the dominion and authority He had given man, the bible shows us how God intentionally indicates the genealogy of man and specifically the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Christ’s genealogy is clearly indicated in Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38. Jesus was perfect in all His ways and was without sin, but His lineage had very imperfect people. Jesus’ ancestry included a liar, a prostitute, more than one murderer, an adulterer, an incester and many other flawed people. Therefore Jesus came to perfect our imperfections through giving of His own life freely for us.

Adam and Eve failed by not trusting and believing God thus falling for satan’s deception. In all truth, even if God had created a fresh breed of man, no human being could withstand the deception and wiles of satan, which by the way, always lead to sin. The sin that Adam and Eve committed is the sin of unbelief, because they did not believe God but rather believed satan and acted on what satan told them instead of standing on God’s word. Then in comes Jesus Christ who was prophesied all through the old testament as the Messiah, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6-7).

Jesus Christ is referred to as the second Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45) because He came to earth through the virgin birth (Matthew 1:18-25), and lowered Himself to become man, so that He could become sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21), thereby restoring our relationship with God. Jesus was God and man (John 10:30) and was without sin and ONLY He could tackle sin and overpower satan (Matthew 1:23). The payment for sin could only be fulfilled by a sinless man, who could keep all of the law of God, and that Man was Jesus Christ. There is no way Jesus could or would relinquish His position or power to satan regardless of circumstances. So, our new covenant through Jesus Christ is permanent and unbreakable. Jesus was and still is our bullet proof against sin and death.

God the Father gave of His only Begotten Son (John 3:16). What a pure, kind, merciful and selfless love- the agape love of God (1 Corinthians 13). Jesus was crucified for me and you so that we could enjoy the life He had prepared and planned for us from the beginning of the world (Acts 2:14-24). He actually became a man and then became sin for us. He gave us His life and in exchange took ours (Isaiah 53), where His life was that of abundance and ours was that of death. When anyone gets born again, they join the citizenship of heaven and become sons of God and by extension the body of Christ.

Jesus calls me and you His friends, not servants or slaves but friends (John 15:13): What an honor coming from God. Jesus lay down His life for His friends. I don’t know about you but this to me is the greatest form of love. Jesus did not think of Himself even for a second, but thought of you and I and the joy and abundant life we would experience in Him and with Him (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus dying on the cross was the greatest gift of all (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Friend, won’t you receive the love of God expressed through Jesus Christ. You will never regret accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life. It will be the best decision of your life, if it isn’t already.

What an amazing God. What manner of love, that we should be called children of God.

1 John 3:1 (New King James Version)

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”
