Science says we have only 5 senses but I truly believe that when God created Adam and Eve, He created them with 6 senses. The 5 senses, that is, see, taste, hear, smell and feel were given to Adam and Eve to use to enjoy all of God’s creation, because man was a physical being living in a physical world, and he could not function well without the 5 senses. God also gave the 6th sense which is faith to Adam and Eve so that they could be able to walk and have relationship with God, because God is Spirit (John 4:24). In order to interact and hear from God, man had to have a spirit, and which spirit you may ask, ‘The Spirit of God’ (Genesis 1:27). In Adam and Eve, the 6th sense was the more predominant sense; they were more aware of the spiritual rather than the physical, hence the reason they were not ashamed to be naked. When they listened to satan and sinned against God, sin produced condemnation and shame, hence why they felt ashamed when they realized they were naked. Thank God for Jesus, who came and bore the wrath of God for our sins and because of Him, our relationship was restored permanently, so that now we are able to interact with God just as Adam and Eve did before sin was introduced. For we now walk by faith (the 6th sense) and not by sight (the 5 senses) (2 Corinthians 5:7).

I used to think that faith is repeatedly declaring what God says in His word and somehow that would make the things that I was trusting God for manifest in my life; sort of like the genie in a lamp in the animation film Aladdin, where in order to have their wishes granted, the characters had to always rub the lamp for the genie to appear and grant them their wishes. There is a difference between what you believe mentally and what you believe spiritually.

Many believers have a right mental belief system that comes from having good doctrine but that does not always transcribe to mean that they are in true faith. Romans 10:10 says that, ‘with the heart one believes,’ therefore, faith is of the heart and not of the mind or brain. Faith is a spiritual experience and is more than just mentally believing because even satan and his demons believe God is who He says He is, and they even tremble at His presence but they don’t have faith in God (James 2:19). Faith is the direct expression of your relationship with God because it is an inner conviction and expectation that produces an outflow (action). Faith is being fully persuaded that God is Who He says He is and He will do what He says He will do (Romans 4:19-21).

Faith is activated or comes by always hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17), and is also action based. Faith will always produce an action. For example, if you’re trusting God for a job, you have to first have a resume and then begin to apply for jobs, God will not magically bring a job to your doorstep. You cannot be in faith and not take a step of faith (action).

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance (the assurance, the confirmation) of things hoped for (it acts as proof of the things we do not see and the conviction of their reality), the evidence of things not seen (faith perceives as real fact that which is not revealed to the 5 senses)” (New King James version & Amplified Classic version- emphasis mine).

Hebrews 10:22 talks of having a true heart that is devoid of an evil conscience. This simply means having a heart that is not held back or led by feelings of shame, guilt, condemnation or unworthiness which are what cause people to have a hard time believing God for anything. Your conscience needs to be cleansed by truly accepting that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus because Jesus was hung on the cross for our sins, He was resurrected and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father. Therefore, you are now a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Being the righteousness of God means that you have right standing with God, not because of how good or holy you are, but because of Jesus- His sacrifice at the cross gave anyone who will believe in Him, direct access to God (John 3:16). The wrath of God on all sin which can be summed up as all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, was satisfied on Jesus Christ at the cross. So when you accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour, you automatically become a member of the household of God, and you receive the righteousness of Jesus by faith. Simply put, Jesus took your unrighteousness, nailed it to the cross and has clothed you with His righteousness, and Galatians 2:20 as well as Romans 6:6 explains it very well.

The key to faith is seeing, except that you’re not using your physical eyes but you’re using your heart to see the promises of God become a reality in your life. I know you’re now wondering, what is seeing with your heart and is that even a thing. Yes, it’s a thing, a really big thing actually. Let me explain.

Romans 10:17 says, “ So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” In order to have effective faith, you have got to have a word from God on that thing or issue you’re trusting God to provide, transform or change. Once you receive a word from God, you begin to see yourself receiving whatever you’re trusting God for, then, automatically, you begin to take steps of faith. When you have a word from God, faith acts as a catalyst that brings the seed of the word of God that you have planted in your heart and been meditating on, to manifest itself in the physical; this is what we then call answered prayer. Noah, Joseph, Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Moses, David, Mary the mother of Jesus, Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist, Apostle Paul, and many other men and women of God in the bible, all had a word from God over the situations and circumstances they were facing or were about to face. The word of God they received enabled them to step out in faith which is action based and today we get to read about their faith and how effective it was (Hebrews 11, Luke 1, Acts 9).

The bible is the infallible word of God which contains many many blessings from God to you. Take time today and find a verse or verses that speak on the promises and blessings of God over your life in the specific area you are trusting God to move in, change or transform, and meditate on them day and night (Joshua 1:8). Begin to see yourself living out those promises. Then watch those promises come to pass in your life.

Friend, be encouraged today that as you step out in faith, the promises of God over your life will be manifest into the natural. Blessings!

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
