Psalm 119:89-91 : “What you say goes, GOD, and stays, as permanent as the heavens. Your truth never goes out of fashion; it’s relevant as the earth when the sun comes up. Your Word and truth are dependable as ever; that’s what you ordered- You set the earth going” (The Message Bible).
The Bible has been outlawed and banned over the centuries and even today there are countries that have banned it from being accessed and read. Yet, it keeps being read and reproduced more than any other book in history. It is the best selling book of all time according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It has sold over 5 billion copies and counting and has been around for over 2000 years. Many books have been written and have made it to the Guinness Book of World Records but none has ever been able to maintain their position. This is because every other year new books are written and released and surpass the ones that were leading in the world records, but the bible has maintained its place in the Guinness Book of World Records, as the best selling book of all time.
God is the Author of the bible and all the contents in it, and He used people to write it. Genesis 1 and 2 give an account of the creation of the heavens, the earth, plants, animals and lastly man. God gave man authority over all the earth, to subdue and have dominion over it. With the authority given to him, Adam went ahead to name all the animals of the earth (Genesis 2:20). I’m pretty sure he got to also name the plants, trees and rivers as well. Over the course of time, the world populated and people ventured into lands that had not been inhabited, so they got to name those places as well. That is why it is not surprising or shocking that God used men to write the bible.
God created man in His own image and likeness for fellowship and He gave man the gift of choice; and just so it’s clear, choice is a God-ability. When Adam and Eve sinned, God did not have to involve them in taking care of His creation, after all He is God; He could have wiped them out and started afresh, but He didn’t because He is the epitome of love. Love is patient, love is kind, love is forgiving, love is long suffering, it bears all things and endures all things (1 Corinthians 13). This is exactly how God treated Adam and Eve after they sinned. He loved them and showed them mercy. James 2:13 says that mercy triumphs over judgment. Therefore, God could have written the bible supernaturally and just handed the contents to man to read and maintain but He didn’t. He chose to involve man in writing down words of wisdom, life and truth that would sustain man in this broken world. He used different people to write the bible.
2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that all scripture is inspired by God. When you read the bible, you will notice that each book has a different tone, dialogue or setting it exudes. Why do you think this is? I’ll tell you why, it’s because God created us to have different characteristics and qualities that make up our personalities. So God did not override or usurp the characteristics and qualities of each person that He used to write the books of the bible. He instead wrote and spoke through them using their own voice. He also did not force them, they willfully chose to do it. The words in the bible are supernatural because they are the words of God and can only be discerned by a born again believer.
Therefore, because all scripture is inspired by God, it means the bible is reliable. It is trustworthy because God is truth (John 14:6). In John 8:31-32, Jesus tells His disciples that if they abide (remain) in His word, they would always walk in absolute truth which is God’s truth and it will set them free (John 8:36). Abiding in God’s word means that you believe Jesus and His word, and you meditate on it day and night (Joshua 1:8) such that you live out His word. Then you will have success in this life God’s way.
God’s word which is contained in the bible will never be outdated or go out of fashion. It has withstood the test of time, because it is timeless, alive and powerful (Hebrews 4:12). There is nothing the word of God doesn’t have an answer for or to. Whatever you are struggling with right now, there is an answer for it in God’s word. Isaiah 40:8 says that God’s word stands forever, so If you think about it, God is the G.O.A.T, Greatest Author of All Time, and that’s on period.
The bible is not a natural book or a religious book. It is the Manufacturer’s handbook with instructions for life. The Manufacturer being God and man and all creation being the product. It contains God-breathed words (2 Peter 1:20-21) which will always release God’s supernatural power to those that believe. It is the love story of God’s pursuit of mankind.
Friend, stick your nose in the word of God by reading and meditating on it day and night. You will begin to see and experience God’s love and goodness, which will change your perspective on God, who you are and life itself, then you will change how you view and do things. Eventually, and in due time, you will be prosperous and have good success in this life (Joshua 1:8).
